Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is planning a Literary Arts Festival from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the George and Leah McKenna Museum 2003 Carondolet St.  The event is free and open to the public.  They will have tables set up for authors and visual artists, refreshments and live entertainment. The artists of the Sigma Beta Club and our own chapter's author – Bro. Herman Toliver will be participating.

It's that time again for the UNCF Walk For Education for Education on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Audubon Park and Zoo. Please show your support by joining the team. The more people that join, the more lives we change. Registration is $30 before September 29, 2010 and just $35 thereafter. All proceeds go to benefit deserving students as they pursue their educational and professional goals.  Just think, with our support, aspiring doctors, lawyers, and teachers will be given the opportunity to reach their full potential.  Please consider joining the team, by making a donation in your name on behalf of future leaders. From 9:00am until 12:00pm we will have a "Sigma Round-Up" combined with a  work party at the chapter house at 9701 Lake Forest, Suite #115.  If you know any Brothers that need to be contacted regarding reactivation, then advise them of this event so they can be an official part of Sigma.  Look to see you there!

Sigma Beta Induction Ceremony @ 7:00pm in the St. Charles Room of the Dana Center at Loyola University.  It will be the first of its kind in the Gulf Coast Region. Brothers are asked to come out and support this important ceremony.

We will have a "Beta Round Up" picnic in Lafayette, La. Saturday June 12, 2010 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The purpose of this event is to demonstrate the true meaning of brotherhood to the young men under our guidance. This event is hosted by Iota Xi Sigma Chapter, Tyrone Foster-Sigma Beta Coordinator. If you wish to attend, we will be leaving from UNO campus at 8:00 am. Lets show the betas how sigmas really show out. I have attached the flyer for your viewing.

Relay For Life: University of New Orleans at Lakefront Arena (Arena South Grounds). This is one of our fraternities' national initiatives. Relay For Life is about celebration, remembrance, and hope. By participating, you honor cancer survivors, pay tribute to the lives we've lost to the disease, and raise money to help fight it all right here in our community. Event Date and Time May 22, 2010 from 3:00 PM - 3:00 AM. You can join for as little as $10 (you can give more). There will be entertainment and the Sigma Beta's will perform. Come out and enjoy - Join Our Team!

Dillard University in partnership with Phi Beta Sigma & Big Shot Beverages will host its 2010 Youth Summit on campus Saturday May 15, 2010.  Phi Beta Sigma will arrange entertainment for the day's events. Come and support the Sigma Betas as they perform.

HIV/AIDS Awareness presentation. This presentation is scheduled for May 19, 2010. The location of the presentation will be at the office of Brother Glenis Scott (Youth Empowerment Project). The address is 1604 O.C. Haley Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70113.  The time is from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. This project is being done under the Conversation among Brothers program under the Social Action Program of the fraternity.

Our own Brother David Warren is producing a Mother's Day Program.  "Honor Thy Mother" is an event designed exclusively to give mothers the royal treatment they deserve this Mother's Day. The atmosphere of elegance with food, a bit of gospel, jazz and classical sounds will set the mood for mothers to leave their cares and work behind. Place: Taravella Manor 5240 Taravalla Road (off of Barataria Blvd.)  Marrero, LA  70072 @ 3:00pm.  If you're looking to take your mother (or wife) to a special occasion or event, consider this as an option.

Dillard University - Avenue of Oaks: Brothers have been asked by Dillard University to serve as ushers, ticket-takers, crowd management, etc. at Dillard University's May 6, 2010 fundraiser entitled: "Timeless Voices". Featured performers include, Eddie Levert (O'Jays), Dennis Edwards (Temptations), Johnny Gill (New Edition), and Gerald Alston (Manhattans).  The concert is outside at the "Avenue of Oaks" on the Dillard Campus.  Brothers are encouraged to wear fraternity paraphernalia (chapter polo shirts for example).  Hours for our commitment extend from 6:00pm through 10:00pm.

March For Babies: LaSalle Park, 6600 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA -  This is one of our fraternities' national initiatives. The Mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Our participation can help them carry out this mission through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies' lives.  Event Date and Time: April 24, 2010 starting at 9:00 AM. The Sigma Beta Club is an essential part of the total organizational structure of Phi Beta Sigma. It offers Sigma men a unique opportunity to develop wholesome values, leadership skills, social and cultural awareness of youth at a most critical state in their personal development.

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity's interest in fostering the development of today's youth into effective leaders of tomorrow can be realized in the establishment of a strong, productive Sigma Beta club.

The Audubon Institute is sponsoring its 7th Annual Greek Show at the zoo. Initially it was intended for just collegians to participate, but due to low numbers it was opened to us. Instead of a step competition, it will be a step exhibition.
 
As an incentive for us, they will donate money to the Sigma Beta Club for our participation. It is scheduled for Saturday February 27, 2010 at 1:00 pm.  If you want to accompany us to the zoo please let me know.

The 2010 Phi Beta State Meeting will be hosted by Alpha Xi Sigma Chapter in Shreveport, LA.  The dates will be February 19-20, 2010.  Costs include registration (alumni $45 & collegiate $25 with $10 increase the day of the event) and chapter tax ($25 alumni & collegiate - pay at event).  Send monies to: Brother Dennis Brown, LA State Treasurer, P. The National Offices of Phi Beta Sigma have made arrangements with the officials of the Greater New Orleans Habitat for Humanity for the official hand over of the keys to the recipient of the house built by Sigma. The affair is scheduled to take place at noon (12:00pm) on Saturday January 23, 2010. Habitat for Humanity worked with the National offices of Phi Beta Sigma to afford Sigma Officers (and local Sigma Brothers) the opportunity to be present in large numbers to witness this great event.

Martin L. King, Jr. Parade - Brothers both grad and undergrad, once again we have been asked to participate in this year's M.L. King, Jr. Federal Holiday Commission Parade which will be held on January 18, 2009. Last year the Sigma Beta's and some Brothers served as parade marshals - other Brother's marched. Afterwards we broke bread together.  Let's do it again!
